Sending an Appropriate Boxed Holiday card

Posted by

Mixed faith mailings

Sending an appropriate boxed greeting card to each recipient on your personal or client holiday mailing list is not easy. More often than not, this requires an intimate knowledge of each persons religious beliefs. With this in mind there are two strategies.

Segment your list and send different cards

Brake your lists down by religious affiliation or preference into several groups and then choose an appropriate card for each group. This strategy works well if you have enough information to categorize your recipients. However, keep a few things in mind when making your cards sellection.

  • When in doubt send a non-denominational card
  • It may appear strange to send a religious card that is not of your faith. This may cause confusion and distract from your good intentions.

Send non-denominational holiday cards

When sending to a client list or mixed faith mailing it is always easier to send a "Happy Holidays" "Seasons Greetings" or "Happy New Year" card than take the chance of offending a recipient. When evaluating your card don't just read the verse. Scan the card for santa hats, wreaths, and other less obvious religious symbols. A good non-denominational card will be free of faith specific language, imagery and symbols.

Sending holiday cards doesn't need to be stressful. A little pre-planning is all it takes.
